Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP) Registration Now Open

There's a new genealogy education opportunity out there. The registration announcement came while I was away at RootsTech.

The Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburg will host its inaugural event July 22-27, 2012. Registration opens February 7. The faculty line-up looks pretty impressive:

John T. Humphrey, CG
Thomas Jones, Ph.D, CG, CGL, FASG, FUGA
Paula Stuart-Warren, CG, FMGS, FUGA
D. Joshua Taylor, MA, MLS
Claire Bettag, CG, CGL
Richard Sayre, CG
Pam Stone Eagleson, CG
Elissa Scalise Powell, CG, CGL
Deborah Lichtner Deal

For further information, visit the GRIP web site. I have no affiliation with the Institute, I'm just providing this information for those who might be interested. Below is the press release as it was shared with me:

Registration for the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP) will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Noon (Eastern Time). The four course coordinators have proven popular at institutes and conferences. Thomas W. Jones, Ph.D., CG, CGL, will coordinate the “Advanced Research Methods” that he also offers at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. John Humphrey, CG, will offer his “German Genealogical Research” course that he presented at the Institute for Genealogy and Historical Research at Samford University last year. Paula Stuart-Warren, CG, and D. Joshua Taylor have created new courses for GRIP in which they will each teach in both. These are “Intermediate Genealogy: Tools for Digging Deeper” and “Beneath the Home Page: Problem Solving with Online Repositories.”

The courses are expected to fill quickly and waiting lists will be created when they do. In addition to the daytime courses, students may attend evening lectures which will also be open to the public. Two of the four evening lectures will be sponsored by the Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and by the North Hills Genealogists of Pittsburgh.

GRIP courses provide a week-long intensive educational opportunity for hands-on learning in a community atmosphere. For more information please see www.GRIPitt.org where you may subscribe to email notifications.

  1. Thank you, Amy, for the post. Tom Jones' Advanced Research Course sold out in 5 minutes. However there is still space in the other courses and they promise to be great experiences!
