Back to School: Report Card

I received assginments 2 and 3 back from my NGS American Genealogy course (with graded option).

Apparently, you don't really get grades. You get feedback, and if you've met the requirements of a given assignment it gets marked "complete."

My feedback was all complimentary. My query letter was "near perfect." I can't decide if NGS graders try just to focus on the positive, or I really did everything right.

I have no idea why assignment 1 didn't come back with the others. It included a family chart. Maybe they keep those for their records? I don't care to get my work back, but I want that "complete" stamped on my card. I'll wait a couple weeks to see if it rolls back here, then I'll ask for it.

I'm still working on assignment 4, slowly but surely. I try to carve out 1 hour a day for reading and such but it doesn't always turn out that way. I need to report on a library this time. The assignment will require two visits. The library is 45 minutes away. That's why it takes me so long to do an assignment.

So far, so good on this whole NGS course experience. The graded papers came back quickly and I'm having fun. That's really all that matters.

  1. Hi, Amy! Thanks for leaving the comment about the matching shorts on my blog! Didn't you love those 80's clothes? Anyhow, I noticed that you have Thibodeaux/Louisiana connections. I also have the Cajun blood (I am a Trahan). I also have Thibodeaux's in my line. I think my 7th or 8th great-grandmother was a Thibodeaux. If you ever need anything from Louisiana, let me know. I live in Baton Rouge, and my parents live in Lake Charles, about 30 minutes from Cameron Parish. I work right across the street from the Louisiana State Archives. My great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents are buried not far from St. Landry Parish, and I think I have some 4th great-grandparents or so buried in St. Landry Parish. Let me know if you need any cemetery photos.

  3. Hi Amy, I am very interested in the classes you are taking through NGS. RIght now, I am taking the smaller online classes before I jump into the graded versions that you are taking.

How long have you been taking these classes?
Do you find that you are learning a lot from them?
How much time do you have to devote to these classes?
Do you feel it is worth the money asked?

    Thanks.
