SCGS12 Hollywood Gala

The 2012 Southern California Genealogy Jamboree has come to a close. I took three whole pictures and I've included them here. All were taken at the Hollywood themed Gala on Friday night. Attendees were encouraged to dress up, so I did. 

Here I am with Thomas MacEntee. He was the MC of the event, so no big hair for him.

There was a photo booth at the gala. I was sitting at a table next to the photo booth, so I was able to get this great photo of Elizabeth O'Neal and Sheri Fenley. The went for the Old Hollywood look.

The photo booth included silly props that you could incorporate into your pictures. George Morgan and Drew Smith (aka the Geneaogy Guys) just wore their regular outfits.

The Jamboree gala was really fun. I liked it better than the traditional conference banquet where we have to sit in one spot and be served chicken-starch-vegetable for dinner. At the gala, we were able to mingle and have fun. There were even some real legends of Hollywood who were signing autographs. A good time was had by all.

{Note to my son: I'm sure you're mortified by your mother. However, please note that everyone said I had the best costume there. That has to count for something, right? Also, you better behave and keep your good grades or I will wear that foam hair to pick you up at school. Love, mom}

SCGS Jamboree Live Streamed Sessions

Hello from California!

I'm here for the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree. It will be great to see some of my genealogy pals again, as well as make some new friends.

If you're not able to join in the fun in person, you can participate and learn through several live-streamed sessions.

This is a great opportunity to learn from home. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you to the Southern California Genealogical Society for making it happen.

SCGS 2012 Genealogy Jamboree Updates

The 2012 Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree is approaching fast.

Here are some news stories about the Jamboree that may be of interest to you:

SCGS has instituted a youth scholarship program for aspiring genealogists from 18-29. This makes conference attendance very affordable for students and young whippersnappers.

Geneabloggers has a list of bloggers who will be at Jamboree. Follow them for all the latest Jamboree information.

Did you know that Jamboree has its own blog? Check it often for Jamboree updates before and during the conference.

SCGS 2012 Jamboree

Earlier this year I considered skipping the 2012 Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree. It was purely a financial decision, trying to cut back on expenses and such. Air fare is expensive, and I always have to bring my son (he stays with my parents).

The about a month ago, I really started to miss my genealogy friends. Jamboree is always wild and crazy, clearly the fun party in the genealogy conference crowd. But it is also a place to reconnect with fellow bloggers and friends I have made along the way.

I realized that Jamboree provides the necessary social contact that I need at this time. The sessions are always top notch and I will learn a lot, but the down time provides value, too. It's a great opportunity for getting professional opinions, new ideas and even genealogy industry business gossip.

So now I am registered for the 2012 Jamboree. There are other ways I can save money, but Jamboree is not where I should be cutting corners. It's too important to my genealogy mind and spirit.

I also registered for the special Society Leadership Workshop on Friday. I'm not an officer in any of the societies to which I belong, but I figure I can bring back ideas to my groups back in Texas. Is anyone else registered for this track?
